Logies or not, Kirsty couldn’t miss this (Dubbo Liberal)
6/05/2009

She was a no show at the Logie Awards, despite being nominated  for Most Popular New Female Talent.

Instead Kirsty Lee Allan was in Los Angeles taking part in an opportunity that may never come again, according to her father, Peter Allan.

The Dubbo born actress flew to LA on Friday to take part in an Australian professional actors course.

Yesterday, Mr Allan said Kirsty was scheduled to be in LA for three weeks, where she had the opportunity to meet and learn from “top casting directors”.

“It was a very good opportunity, it’s a shame it had to coincide with the Logies,” he said.

Kirsty was nominated for Most Popular New Female Talent for her role as Able Seaman Rebecca ‘Bomber’ Brown on WIN Television’s Sea Patrol.

Jessica Marais, from Seven Network’s Packed to the Rafters, received the silver Logie at the 51st TV Week Logie Awards on Sunday night.

Not seeing her on television, other than a head-shot was disappointing, and many people wanted to see her at the Logies, Mr Allan said.

However, he said that LA was a good opportunity for her as she was intent on learning more and creating more opportunities for her career.

“This opportunity may have not come around again,” he said.

Mr Allan said if a job arose while Kirsty was in LA she would consider staying there for work.

“Wherever there is work, she will stay,” he said.

Proud father Peter Allan is looking forward to the Logies this weekend, saying his daughter would go “as far as she wants to”.

Kirsty Lee Allan has been nominated for a Logie award and her parents are “very excited” in the lead up to the awards this Sunday night.

“We’re having a quiet night and watching from home,” Mr Allan said. “But if she does get it, we’ll certainly be celebrating.”

The Daily Liberal reported yesterday that Kirsty Lee had “something lined up in LA” but it was too soon to give any details about it.

However, she will be back in Australia in September to start shooting season three of Sea Patrol, where she plays the role of Able Seaman Rebecca ‘Bomber’ Brown.

Mr Allan said Kirsty Lee’s dedication was what had gotten her to where she is today.

“She’s put in all the hard work over the years and to see it now coming to fruition is fantastic,” he said.

“She’ll go as far as she wants to go. Acting is a combination of luck and hard work, and she’s very determined.”

Winning the Logie was not the important part, and he was proud that she had gotten this far.

“It’s not so much about winning but about her being there. It’s a wonderful thing to see your kids achieve in life. She’s doing what she loves.”

Mr Allan said it was “great for Dubbo” to see local people achieving at the things they love.

“It’s great for Dubbo to see Charlie and Kirsty do so well.”

“And it’s good for the kids in Dubbo to see young people achieving their goals.”

The 51st Annual TV Week Logie Awards air Sunday at 8pm on WIN.

Logie nominee thankful to have the support of her home town (Dubbo Liberal)

With the Logie Awards just days away, Kirsty Lee Allan is nervous, but already has career plans set in place regardless of the result.

Kirsty Lee spoke to the

Daily Liberal yesterday about

her plans to take her career overseas.

She said she has “something lined up in L.A” but it was too soon to give any details away.

“Fingers crossed it comes through,” she said.

She has planned to be in America for three weeks so far, but the amount of time she spends over there will depend on the role she lands.

“I maybe heading over sooner rather than later,” she said.

Regardless, Kirsty Lee will be back in Australia in September shooting for Sea Patrol, where she plays the role of of Able Seaman Rebecca Brown.

This Sunday, Kirsty Lee will

come up against four other actresses nominated for Most Popular New Female Talent at the 2009 Logie Awards.

She is the only one in her category for WIN television.

Kirsty Lee said she was nervous coming up to the awards night, but is planning to enjoy the evening and has no expectations.

“It’s my first year being on TV and that was a big enough shock,” she said.

“The Logie nomination has topped it off.”

The winner of the Logie is based on viewer votes alone.

Voting lines have closed, however Kirsty Lee is assured that she has the support of Dubbo.

“All the voting has finished and I think a lot of Dubbo people voted,” she said.

“It’s good to have your home town behind you.”

The 51st Annual TV Week Logie Awards air on Sunday night at 8.00pm on WIN.

Dubbo girl guns for Logie - but what will she wear? (Dubbo Liberal)

1/04/2009

Former Dubbo girl turned TV star Kirsty Lee Allan has been nominated in this year’s TV Week Logie Awards, but doesn’t know what she will wear to the ceremony.

Ms Allans has been nominated in the Most Popular New Female Talent for her performance on the Nine Network’s Sea Patrol series.

Having attended the 2009 Logies nomination breakfast yesterday morning, Ms Allan was very excited with her selection and honoured to be among some of Australian televisions most famous stars.

“It was all very exciting and very surreal especially being surrounded by people I have grown up watching,” Ms Allan said.

“People such as Kate Richie, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Ian Smith (Harold from Neighbours).

“I had to do a lot of interviews and we got up on stage to have photos within our nominated category.”

While a win would be ideal, Ms Allan said she was quite content with just being nominated for the award.

“Just being nominated is a win in itself especially against Jess Marais (Packed to the Rafters).”

The awards are considered Australian television’s night of nights, yet Ms Allan remains unsure as to what she will be wearing.

“I should probably get onto that,” she laughed.

“There are a few designers I really like, but I haven’t chosen anything”.

Ms Allan’s father Peter Allan, a real estate agent, said the Dubbo community has provided some wonderful support for his daughter and believes in turn her success has done great things for Dubbo.

“We are very thankful for the support from her friends and Dubbo voters,” he said.

“They have given her this chance, it wouldn’t have happened without Dubbo’s support.”

“With the likes of herself and Charlie Bartley (So You Think You Can Dance) it’s great to see kids from Dubbo doing so well. It shows Dubbo is a great town to grow up in and provides great opportunities.”

The 51st TV Week Logie Awards will be held on Sunday, May 3 at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne and televised on the Nine Network.

Votes for Ms Allan can be made in TV Week magazine or on their website.
